Studemus

Studemus – Where We Are Eager To Learn And Are Fond of Study

Studemus means “we study” in Latin. This verb in Latin, however, is more deeply nuanced than our verb “study” in English. It also means “to be eager”, “to be diligent or keen”, and “to have fondness or affection” for something. It is with this spirit of eager diligence and fondness that we at Studemus think one should study whatever it is they are learning or write whatever they are writing. Likewise, it is with this same attitude towards study and learning that one should teach, tutor, and edit. At Studemus, we study the way one ought to study.

English Classes

Studemus offers private and small group English classes online for all ages and English levels. All of our experienced teachers have lived abroad and have learned foreign languages themselves.

They therefore understand your everyday struggles living as a foreigner in an English-speaking country or trying to learn English by yourself in your own country. Our goal is to have you speaking English confidently, practicing the language with friendly teachers in the comfort of your own home on your own schedule. We can offer as many or as few classes per week as you like.

Tutoring

Whether your child is struggling in school or already has excellent grades but would like to excel even more, we have private tutors for every subject and grade level, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. We recognize that one’s intellect is the most important part of one’s self. While we can certainly help your child do better in school, this is secondary to our primary goal: instilling a lifelong love of learning in your child.

Your child can cultivate this love of learning in the comfort of home, either alone or with up to 3 friends according to your schedule. At Studemus we understand that children (even older children) learn best with consistent daily practice and short learning sessions. We therefore do not offer long classes just once or twice a week for younger children like most other tutors do. Instead, we give your child three short (20 minute) but pedagogically efficient learning sessions per week, along with assigning roughly 15-20 minutes of homework (which we correct prior to each session) to do on their own five days per week. Slow but steady wins the race when it comes to learning at any age, but for children, slow but steady is the only effective way.

Homeschooling

Marcus Aurelius wrote in his famous Meditations: “From my great grandfather, [I learned] not to frequent public schools, and to have good teachers at home, and that on such things one should spend liberally.” We understand why you have chosen to homeschool: your child’s moral and intellectual growth is too important to you not to be involved in it first-hand. (The founder of Studemus, in fact, homeschools his own children.) Sometimes, however, the homeschooling parent needs some extra help.

Perhaps a parent is facing time-restraints or perhaps there might be one or two subjects that might not be the parent’s particular strength. If that is the case, Studemus is there to help you and your child for any subject and age level. You will always be your child’s principal teacher and guide in life – and we would not have it any other way! – but we can assist you on your homeschooling journey. And unlike the lesson that Marcus Aurelius learned from his great-grandfather in the quote above, you will not have to “spend liberally”: a homeschooling education supplemented with Studemus is affordable.
